Mirela Rupic Tips on Wearing a Statement Jacket

It takes a lot of confidence for a person to wear something as bold as a multicolor statement jacket, and you need fashion knowledge to make that piece work with the rest of the outfit. Although Mirela Rupic is an acclaimed fashion and costume designer, with years of experience in the fashion industry, she knows how hard sometimes it can be to style a statement jacket without clashing too many colors or patterns. Statement pieces have never been so effective, and this fall they will be particularly in trend. Of course, not everyone can create a stylish combination, so if you don’t know or aren’t sure, Mirela Rupic suggests wearing monochrome outfit, so that the jacket can be the focus point.

A jacket is a key investment piece for upgrading your wardrobe, and a fashion essential during all seasons. There are a few jacket silhouettes that dominate the world trends. The bomber jacket had a major comeback a few years ago, and ever since we can’t get enough of it. A bomber jacket in bold colors or eccentric print can make any outfit more vibrant. The duster has a sleek style that can be dressed up or down quite easily. Because of its versatile style, Rupic is a big fan of it and uses it not only for her designs and creations, but for her movie costumes as well. If you want to give a more personal touch, you can play with size, proportion, colors, and get a simple dressed-up, modern look.

High boots are other absolute winners of this season. They pair nice with everything from dresses, pants, skirts, and you can wear them for different occasions. Burgundy has traditionally become a must-have color for the fall season. Combine it with black, but make sure that the main accent is on the burgundy, and you’ll have a real head turning outfit that will make you feel powerful, as a stylish queen. To finish off this combination, Mirela Rupic would add a small backpack, layered necklace and her personal favorite chunky boots as it can be seen at her blog at altervista. Traditionally, red is the color without that can be seen during fall, and in the right combination is stylish enough to attract all the street style photographers.

Rupic Glorifies Women’s Figure

Mirela Rupic is a designer with her own brand, which after years of making quality costume designs tried the waters in fashion design and won over the market. While her attention is mainly focused on the new Spring/Summer collection, which will be presented in Europe and Canada in addition to America, still she decided to make sort of a homage to all those who don’t meet the unattainable criteria that are currently imposed by the fashion industry. It seems that feminine curves have started to rule the world, and now it is that that the fashion industry acknowledges that as well.

When you shoot a campaign with models, the clothing gets labeled as unwearable and unattainable, and Rupic wanted to show just the opposite. Her clothes work great on plus size women as well as on those with a liner body. Therefore it is not surprising that for her new lookbook the designer hired a beautiful plus size model. On Tumblr Rupic often points out that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes, and as long as you have the personality and self-confidence there isn’t an obstacle in conquering the world. Her philosophy has always been based on the modern, edgy style, with a touch of personal seal, and these plus size models have once again boldly and successfully rebounded from the standards set by the society.

In terms of her upcoming collection, this season Rupic chose to go with dresses and clothing pieces that emphasize femininity, character and personality. A woman in the full sense of the word and its freedom of expression is a frequent inspiration for this designer, who in many respects defies trends and brings her own vision of fashion and style. At a time when women once again prove their inner strength and ability, she dresses them in minimalist cuts and bold pieces, skillfully emphasizing their femininity and sex appeal. Modern-day society has moved from the stigmatizing views that every model has to be skinny and size zero. This talented designer is looking forward to many projects such as this one, hoping she can at least contribute and make plus size women feel as beautiful as they look.

Mirela Rupic often states that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes, and as long as you have the personality and self-confidence, practically there is no obstacle in the conquest of the world. Her philosophy has always been based on a modern style, with a touch of personal touch, and those plus size models can once again bravely and successfully built the standard that has been approved by each company.

Designer Mirela Rupic Sets Her Own Trends

If I had to define my style, I would really found myself in trouble," says costume designer Mirela Rupic who has never been a slave to fashion, and as early as high school she would combine her garments in the way she wanted, without trying to conform or belong to a certain group. Then she created her fusion of styles, because it has always been important to her that the clothes she wears align with how she feels.

Currently, it is interesting for her to observe how a certain type of clothing affects her, and how she affects clothes, because as she says: "It is inevitable that the type, color, shape, the material of the clothes we wear will affect the way we walk and move, while on the other hand our own statement and guard also affect our look. Recently, Rupic returned from New York where she has the launching party for her clothing line of costume designs for the new film of David Lynch.

Her style is a unique mix of urban, casual, yet a bit rough pieces that are linked in a much unencumbered way. It is this spontaneity of styling that provides Mirela Rupic with a distinct dose of style.

For her, designing costumes is a way of expressing or even more, a way of life. Sometimes she doesn’t put any effort, sometimes she gets carried away in the designs, but never for too long. For Mirela Rupic creating costumes is subject to impulsive reactions, and so is dressing. Her clothes are very important in her life, as when actors can’t say something, they express it through their costumes. Fashion is her way of expression, just like movies are to directors. For that reason Rupic is prefer by many directors, a way of work that gave her a rich portfolio of many successful movies she has been working on.

When she selects her daily styling, she always starts from one piece of clothing or detail, around which she then builds the rest of the combination. She emphasizes that there is no favorite color or a piece of clothing for her. In her wardrobe everything is equally represented. When choosing what to wear, the most important things for her is to feels comfortable, but still attract attention. When day and evening styling are concerned, Mirela Rupic likes wearing them the other way around, or for the evening she chooses a more simple and practical combinations, while for the day she likes to decorate more.

Designer Mirela Rupic on Midi Skirts

If you're petite, it does not mean you can’t wear trendy midi skirts. Other than being active as a costume designer for some well-known cinema hits, costume designer Mirela Rupic has been in the movie industry for over two decades, and as she reveals the only secret is to combine them intelligently, and here she brings you advice on how to achieve this.

Midi skirts are a big hit for several seasons in a row, and regardless whether it is wide, narrow, plaid or thigh-high model skirt, it is no wonder that so many girls like to push the limits of conventions by wearing them. Retro models or the so-called A-line skirts, as well as those that go in a full circle, are required when designing a wardrobe for a classic movie. For such projects Mirela Rupic asks actresses to wear them with tight tops, and more importantly, with flat shoes. High heels already allow something more comfortable for the upper part. These models come in high waist or wide belt, so shorter girls or girls whose waistline is not well defined have nothing to be worried about when it comes to this trend.

In case you decide for a shorter, so called pencil skirt, as Rupic points out, the choice of shoes is not limited. Besides that, pencil skirts work well for both short and tall girls, provided that they have no excessive weight. If you go for a tighter upper part, by that you visually narrow the waist, so a belt or a crop top will work perfectly.

As an established costume designer, Mirela Rupic believes that midi skirts are the perfect ladylike addition to every woman’s closet. The standout silhouette and its styling options immediately draw our attention, as you could wear one over a longer dress, or tuck a graphic tee into the waistline. When it comes down to rocking a midi skirt, these guidelines provided by costume designer Rupic are all that you need to follow. You can also learn how to choose the right accessories, master proportions, and most importantly find the right silhouette for your body type. Whatever you do make sure your look is well balanced, that you have the right proportions, and a good pair of shoes that completes the entire outfit.

Rupic: The Role of a Costume Designer

Being a costume designer means starting to work even before pre-production. Designing, creating, and acquiring every costume for all actors and extras is the designer’s job, and as American costume designer Mirela Rupic explains, it is no easy task. In today’s pop culture outfits define movies probably faster than anything else. Creating an iconic look that will not only be accepted but also remembered requires many skills, and here she shares some of her insights on how to create such iconic piece of outfit.

Because costumes are such an integral part that defines the overall look of the film, costume designers need a great deal of expertise. From drawing and sketching original costumes, to overseeing the adaptation of the readymade outfits, their work is not only creative but also very responsible. Now speaking about Rupic, who has always been fashion savvy with creative inclinations, and this has helped her a lot while building her professional career. As a costume designer she needs to carry out researches and break down scripts scene by scene, in order to figure out how each character is involved and what kind of costume it requires.

Once that is done begins the even more complex procedure of developing costume plots for each character. Things like colors and styles are important for each scene, so Rupic needs to ensure that they don’t mimic with each other, while thinking about the characters emotional journey or state, and choosing the colors that will truly represent that. Intensity and depth of color are also important and must be incorporated in a proper way.

Using a number of resources like Crunchbase, Mirela Rupic figures out the appropriate costume style, and with the help of sketches and fabric samples she tries to convey her vision to the director. The production designer and the director of photography also have a say in choosing the color palettes, because costumes are just one piece of the puzzle, without which the picture wouldn’t be complete. Fittings for actors and extras are also arranged by costume designers, and they are expected to be on the set, making sure that the actors are comfortable, and oversee any alterations if needed.

The fashion industry is driven solely on results. Because consumers’ needs and wishes are constantly changing, there is no magic formula. Fashion and costume designer Mirela Rupic has been a part of the industry for over two decades. Based on her experience and knowledge of the apparel and fashion industry, in terms of what sells and what doesn’t, she has prepared a brief guideline with useful advice.

When you’re selling something, regardless whether it is jeans, shirts or dresses, there is always someone who is in the same business as you are. Your competition is in fact your biggest source of information. When creator is designing a costume collection, identifying a retailer’s best seller is a good starting point. If a certain brand has a piece of clothing that is repeated every season, the chances are that consumer’s show interest for that item season in and out. Creating a key item that can be repeated with small changes each season is what brings the profit. Every successful brand has that signature look or piece of clothing in their product offering.

Having products that will sell among consumers is the first and most important thing. However, you must also follow the current trends. The best you can do is incorporate those trends into your line with your niche. Although having a signature look is extremely important, knowing how to upgrade that look is equally important. According to Mirela Rupic, an assistant costume designer for TV series and shows at IMDB, in order to sell your apparel you must first produce a great clothing line with a solid foundation that you feel confident presenting.

Every brand and designer is working far in advance of the season they are designing for. Although this can be challenging, given the fact how fast fashion trends change, but giving yourself enough time to prepare and develop the line according to your standards, can ultimately make all the difference and be the crucial step for your journey to success. Because there are so many elements in the production process, you must keep in mind that a lot of things can go wrong and in that case schedule a meeting with costume designer. But no matter how frightening at may look, you need to find the best solution possible and arise above the situation.

Rupic on Making a Cohesive Collection

Designing an entire fashion collection can take more than a year. Famous designers launch their pre-fall, season, and holiday collections, with a team in several departments and a design team for every aspect of the collection. But for those who cannot afford all that, it takes six to twelve months to produce a well-done collection. Fashion designer Mirela Rupic has been involved in the fashion industry for over two decades, and understands the difficulties that come with preparing a clothing collection.

Designing a cohesive fashion collection is so much more than just an artistic process. In order to create fashion, build a successful collection, create a successful product season after season, launching it, all while dealing with limited resources requires a certain set of skills.

When you’re trying to sell a collection, you’re also wondering do they like the collection, are they going to buy it, and all that brings extra pressure to the designer. Being a designer is all about getting your name known, and that requires a lot of persistent effort. Nowadays, with everyone trying to make it, there is nobody interested in helping you become famous in this industry. You have to work your way up, no matter how much hard or even impossible it may seem. Even when everyone is ignoring you, you must be persistent, get your foot in the door, accept the criticism, accept the rejection, and follow up with the people who are interested.

Run the whole production process in your mind and figure out a way to produce hundreds of pieces not just a single sample. Making things work with a single sample is rather easy, but it’s another thing when you hit the production line. So broaden your visions and think upfront. It can save you a lot of money, time and nerves.

In order to turn your line into a successful business you must integrate the business side with the creative side. Figure out and try to cut the cost of every pattern piece and every stitch. Make sure you stay within your budget and always plan those unexpected things that will cost you extra. Add higher production costs onto the final price tag and you will either lose sales or lose money.

Designing the entire fashion collection can take more than a year. Famous designers launch their collection in several departments for every aspect of the collection. But for those who can not afford all this, they'll need six to twelve months to produce a good and effective collection.
