Designer Mirela Rupic Sets Her Own Trends

If I had to define my style, I would really found myself in trouble," says costume designer Mirela Rupic who has never been a slave to fashion, and as early as high school she would combine her garments in the way she wanted, without trying to conform or belong to a certain group. Then she created her fusion of styles, because it has always been important to her that the clothes she wears align with how she feels.

Currently, it is interesting for her to observe how a certain type of clothing affects her, and how she affects clothes, because as she says: "It is inevitable that the type, color, shape, the material of the clothes we wear will affect the way we walk and move, while on the other hand our own statement and guard also affect our look. Recently, Rupic returned from New York where she has the launching party for her clothing line of costume designs for the new film of David Lynch.

Her style is a unique mix of urban, casual, yet a bit rough pieces that are linked in a much unencumbered way. It is this spontaneity of styling that provides Mirela Rupic with a distinct dose of style.

For her, designing costumes is a way of expressing or even more, a way of life. Sometimes she doesn’t put any effort, sometimes she gets carried away in the designs, but never for too long. For Mirela Rupic creating costumes is subject to impulsive reactions, and so is dressing. Her clothes are very important in her life, as when actors can’t say something, they express it through their costumes. Fashion is her way of expression, just like movies are to directors. For that reason Rupic is prefer by many directors, a way of work that gave her a rich portfolio of many successful movies she has been working on.

When she selects her daily styling, she always starts from one piece of clothing or detail, around which she then builds the rest of the combination. She emphasizes that there is no favorite color or a piece of clothing for her. In her wardrobe everything is equally represented. When choosing what to wear, the most important things for her is to feels comfortable, but still attract attention. When day and evening styling are concerned, Mirela Rupic likes wearing them the other way around, or for the evening she chooses a more simple and practical combinations, while for the day she likes to decorate more.
